Implementation of energy saving solutions in the exterior lighting systems in the city of Zaporizhzhya

Project goal

The main goal of the project is to create a modern, efficient and energy saving system of the exterior lighting system of the city of Zaporizhzhya and, as a result - reduction of electricity consumption.

Project participants

• Zaporizhzhya city council is the main initiator of the project and a garantor of the credit repayment;
• State communal enterprise of the electrical networks of exterior lighting of the city "Zaporizhmisksvitlo" is the project executor;
• Management of energy efficiency demonstration zone "Yuzhnaya", Zaporizhzhya regional center of the National informational network on energy saving take responsibility on the general coordination and assistance in application preparation and UN ECE's projects implementation.
  

Project measures

• Replacement of the incandescent and mercury-vapor lamps of DRL-type by energy efficient sodium lamps of DNAT-type using the new fixture;
• Implementation of the new engineering decisions in the system's elements and devices of the exterior lighting system.
  

Project benefits

• Reduction of the electricity consumption for exterior lighting of the central part of the city by more than 50% and relevant reduction of municipal budget costs;
• Reduction of the city budget costs for electricity consumed for exterior lighting;
• Reduction of the operational costs for providing the exterior lighting system's operation;
• Improvement of the work conditions for the maintenance personnel owing to the implementation of the new engineering decisions, devices and equipment in the city lighting system;
• Reduction of mercury lamps applications that are used for the city lighting with the relevant prevention of the problems with their utilization;
• Providing street lighting in accordance with the sanitary norms and improvement of the traffic and criminal situation in the city;
• Improvement of the aesthetic view of the lighting facilities in the city as a whole.

Total project cost and required investments

Total project cost $342.8 thousand (Hr 1.817 million); equity financing - $102.84 thousand (Hr 544.84 thousand, 30% of the project cost), debt financing - $239.96 thousand (Hr 1.272 million, 70% of the project cost).
