Co-Generation and GHG Reduction at Dniproshina Tire Plant Sector Tire industry Proponent/Project Owner Joint Stock Company DNIPROSHYNA (Dnipropetrovsk City) Background Substantial amounts of energy are currently being wasted due to excess boiler capacity resulted in the venting of high pressure, high temperature steam. This also creates a potential for GHG reduction through the installation of a co-generation unit that would make more efficient use of primary energy inputs at the plant site and reduce GHG emissions from grid electricity. Technical Summary Install two backpressure 6 MW turbines (P-6-3.4/1.0 and PR6-3.4/1.5/0.5-1)
made by the Kaluga Turbine Plant and generators made by Electrotjazhmash.
This will use of energy currently wasted at the boiler plant in steam
turbines for electricity production. Project Goal and GHGs Targeted The project will supply 50 % of the plant's electricity needs at one-third the cost currently paid for grid supply. The project will achieve reduced emissions of CO2 of 1,225,244 t/CO2 equivalent over the project lifetime. Estimated Cost Total estimated project cost is $ 5.6 million. The project IRRs including carbon credits under three scenarios range from 26.4 % to 37.5 %. The investment per tonne of avoided emissions is estimated at $ 4.60/t CO2 equivalent. Status and Financing A feasibility study is available in Ukrainian and English. This analysis has determined that the lowest cost equipment suppliers are manufacturers Kaluga Turbine Plant and Electrotjazhmash.
