LETTER OF MR. IHOR SHUMYLO,
DEPUTY MINISTER OF ECONOMY OF UKRAINE

Alliance to Save Energy
Ref.: 15-54/233
May 14, 2001, Kyiv

Dear Mr. Lemley,

In response to your request regarding participation of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine in the Eighth meeting of the Multilateral Climate Change Working Group we would suggest discussing of the following priority issues with international donors during that meeting:

  • information of US representatives on the new US stance towards meeting commitments of the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change;
  • realization of JI projects with the aim of promoting transfer of advanced technologies and preferential investments to Ukraine;
  • international regulatory documents on implementation of the Kyoto Protocol;
  • potential financial assistance of international donors to conduct technical and economic assessment of potential consequences of Ukraine's ratification of the Kyoto Protocol.

We propose Mr. Yuriy Andriychenko, Deputy Head of Department for Analysis and Forecasting of Regional Development (tel/fax: 261-1952) and Ms. Olena Kucherenko, Head of Department for Bilateral Economic and Technical Cooperation (tel: 212-4411) as our candidates for collaboration with the Working Group.

Respectfully,
I. Shumylo
Deputy Minister of Economy
